What
is pipe-up! ?
The Diocese
of Salisbury in association with the Tindall Trust are organising pipe up!, a network of venues where young musicians may attend Saturday morning workshops to learn how to play
the ‘King of Instruments’!
Children
and their parents will be able to attend group workshops at suitable local venues with qualified teachers on exciting instruments.
Large
schools and churches in the diocese have been asked for access to organs and organ teachers on Saturday mornings during school
term time. Already, Sherborne Abbey, Wimborne Minster, Bryanston School, Marlborough College, St. Mary’s Dorchester,
St. Mary's Calne, Swanage Parish Church, St. Michael’s Melksham, Westbury Parish Church, St. Mary’s Beaminster,
St. John’s Tisbury and Farley Parish Church have agreed to host workshops.
Young
musicians will get the chance to play on the best instruments in the Diocese with opportunities for visits, demonstrations
by virtuoso players, informal concerts and structured group teaching.
‘The Diocese of Salisbury, supported
financially by The Tindall Trust are wanting to invest in the future generation of church organists and wish to encourage
and support young musicians who want to learn the organ.’
We are looking for organ teachers throughout
the diocese who can enthuse young musicians and start them playing. If you might be able to offer some teaching time on the
Saturday morning workshops, please do get in touch. There is an hourly rate for this work and travel expenses.
