Church Music Training

choirs & singers

Do you sing?

Fancy joining a choir?

Do you live in the Winchester or Romsey area?

Both choirs featured here are looking for singers who may be interested in singing regularly or in deputising on a part-time basis. Maybe you have just moved into the area and have some singing experience? Contact Robert Fielding if you are interested in becoming a member of either choir. email: fieldings4@btopenworld.com

The Winchester City Festival Choir

With 100 singers, this SATB choral society meets weekly for rehearsals in Winchester and rehearses for concerts in January and May. Emphasis is firmly placed on the enjoyment of singing and the opportunity to sing the major works from the choral repertory. The most recent concert at the newly built Arts Centre at St. Swithun's School, Winchester (a superb venue), featured Bach's Magnificat and Mozart's Requiem. Auditions for new members are currently available for Sopranos and of course, Tenors.

Romsey Abbey Choir

The choir at Romsey Abbey has enjoyed a long period of superb direction under the direction of Anthony Burns-Cox and Jeffrey Williams. The soaring Norman arches of Romsey Abbey have resounded to the sounds of music in worship since Benedictine nuns chanted their daily Office in the c12. Now, under the direction of Robert Fielding, the choir provide music for the Sunday services and Festivals. With 20 boys and 12 men, the Abbey choir are fortunate to be able to provide a wide range of repertoire and to be accompanied on the splendid 1858 Walker.
